LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery, fully known as Lesego Moncho Brian Art and Interiors Gallery, is a proudly South African sole proprietorship founded in 2004 by Lesego Moncho, a self-taught Cubism abstract oil painter.
Established in the rural village of Taung in the North West province, the gallery was born from a genuine need for an art-making facility in the community. What began as a response to limited creative opportunities has grown into a vibrant space dedicated to artistic development, cultural preservation, and creative expression.
At the heart of LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery is a deep belief in the power of art to transform spaces, uplift people, and spark meaningful conversation. The gallery curates artworks that enrich interiors, inspire dialogue, and evoke a sense of calm. It also creates a collaborative platform where artists from different cultural and national backgrounds can come together in a spirit of innovation, professionalism, creativity, and productivity.
The gallery’s mission is rooted in community growth and empowerment. LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery is committed to promoting art education and training for visual art learners, out-of-school youth, and community members interested in the arts. By making informal art education more accessible to the public, the gallery continues to nurture talent and open doors for aspiring artists who might not otherwise have access to formal training.
Lesego Moncho’s artistic philosophy gives powerful insight into the soul of the business.
As he says, “My canvas is a space in which to act; what is on the canvas is not a picture but an event.”
His work reflects emotional depth and personal experience. He describes some of his paintings as appearing one-dimensional in places, while still embracing all the elements of art. These works capture phases of his life marked by anxiety, loneliness, and depression, emotions that created a sense of flatness in the work. Yet from those difficult experiences came a positive awakening of the artist within him. His journey is one of resilience, showing how hardship can become the source of inspiration, healing, and beauty.
Driven by a curious mind and a love for experimentation, Lesego developed a strong connection to impasto* techniques. In his work, figures and symbols are integrated into the background, while the use of impasto helps lift the mood and spirit of each piece. Earthy colours bring harmony, warmth, and energy, giving the work a distinctive visual language that is both grounded and expressive.
LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery offers a range of products and services that reflect its creative and community-centred vision. Its core products include original oil paintings, assemblages, mosaic designs, and commissioned works for public spaces, offices, and homes. Its services include informal art education and training, exhibition communication through planning and execution, workshops and seminars, and project management and event planning.
Through these offerings, the gallery not only supports artistic production but also contributes to the professionalisation of the art and culture industry by archiving, preserving, and documenting artists and cultural workers.
Looking ahead, LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery has an inspiring vision for the future. The business aims to explore international markets, establish an artist residency, and attract art lovers and tourists to the district and local municipality.
These goals reflect a broader ambition to position Taung as a place of cultural significance while creating opportunities for local artists to connect with wider audiences.
LMB Arts and Interiors Gallery stands as a powerful example of how creativity, purpose, and determination can shape a business that serves both art and community. Through Lesego Moncho’s passion and vision, the gallery continues to inspire, educate, and create meaningful impact, proving that great art can emerge from any place and speak to the world.
