From her travels in Ghana and being a South African foodie, came Reabetswe’s inspiration to make ‘1019 sauce’. Following an abrupt return to her hometown in Tlhabane (Rustenburg), after not living there for over 12 years. Looming over us was a pandemic and an overwhelming fear of whether “these were the end days”. She decided to turn to the kitchen (her forever happy place). She loved the flavours that she was exposed to in Ghana and kept thinking to herself ‘’if she could only find a way to come up with something that captures the fruitiness of the habanero pepper like so many of the Ghanaian dishes do then she would find a way for people to fall in love with her sauce’’. This is how the 1019 relish sauce came about, through a merriment of peppers.
Ten-nineteen (1019) is the actual house number of her grandparents’ home in Tlhabane, Rustenburg.

The sauce is organic and suitable for vegetarians and the health-conscious market. The sauce was originally available only in a hot flavour but because of consumer demand, we have added extra hot and mild flavours. The mild is the most flavoursome with a slight bite that will have your taste buds tingling, the hot sauce is packed with flavour and heat and will have your taste buds singing, it’s definitely popular and finally the extra hot brings all of the heat, this is not for the faint-hearted and will be enjoyed by the chilli aficionados.

In September 2024 both their the mild and hot flavours of 1019 Sauce won gold at the Aurora International Taste Challenge 2024. This award recognizes the bold, vibrant flavours of their unique five pepper blend.

The company is officially registered as Ramotshwedi (Pty) Ltd , better known by its brand name of No. 1019 Sauce. The brand has a strong online presence, with a website, Facebook and Instagram pages.
