DEDECT Budget 2026.27 – A budget to unlock investment and turn around provincial entities
June 24, 2026NWDC markets the province to Foreign Economic Representatives prior to their international postings
The NWDC hosted an investment opportunities workshop on 15 July 2026 at the ANEW Hunters Rest venue in Rustenburg.
The event brought together approximately 20 Foreign Economic Representatives and project leaders from the Department of Trade, Investment and Competition (dtic) to expose them to provincial trade and investment initiatives.
The Trade and Investment unit of the NWDC facilitated the programme under the management of Trade and Investment Manager Lovemore Makunike.
The Foreign Economic Representatives are participants in the Department of Trade, Investment and Competition’s Capacity Development Programme. These officials will be posted in South African missions abroad from end of July 2026, where they will play a critical role in advancing the country’s trade, investment and industrial development objectives in key foreign markets.
Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Cllr. Shiela Mabale-Huma, addressed the delegation, stating that the municipality and the province are prepared to work with global investors. She said: “Tell global investors that Rustenburg and the North West are open to business, and we are ready to co-author investor success stories.”
Several organizations delivered investment opportunity presentations during the workshop. The presentations covered initiatives from the North West Development Corporation, Rustenburg Local Municipality, the Bakubung Smart City Project, Tisella Poultry Value Chain, and the North West Parks and Tourism Board, among others. These presentations were curated to strengthen participants’ understanding of the North West province and Rustenburg’s trade and investment landscape.
The visit serves as part of the experiential learning requirement for the Foreign Economic Representatives programme.
The delegation continued their visit on 16 July 2026 with a site tour of the Bodirelo Industrial Park in Mogwase, which sits within the area earmarked for the Bojanala Special Economic Zone. Beake Afrika Engineering, an NWDC tenant in the industrial park, hosted this portion of the visit.
