NWDC joined DEDECT alongside an array of stakeholders in Potchefstroom on 19 July 2022 for a collective #MandelaMonth outreach.
Led by MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi in partnership with sponsors and stakeholders such as departmental entities and Unicef, the spirit of Madiba was honoured by generous donations and lending a helping hand to the Tlokwe Youth Centre for Excellence (TYCE) and Ikhaya la Bantwana Orphanage.
NWDC CEO, Mr Tshepo Phetla and NWDC Company Secretary, Mr Kabelo Mafokwane participated alongside MEC Mosenogi and HOD Lufuno Tshikovhi in the outreach.
Tlokwe Youth Centre for Excellence (TYCE) operates as a Non- Profit Organisation (NPO) from a building that was previously used as a commando office for incarceration. Part of the building houses the Ikhaya la Bantwana Orphanage which currently cares for 26 children between the ages of 7 and 19. This community project was established by Ms Ntsizi after observing escalating levels of poverty, unemployment and a shortage of recreational facilities and orphanages for youth in Ikageng.
The Department and its partners assisted with painting the building, electrical and plumbing work, and donated necessities including beds, linen, ceramics, mattresses, food, toys, blankets and toiletries.
The medium to long-term plan is to support the development of the centre into a Youth Incubation Hub and utilise the available land for agricultural projects.
In her address, MEC Mosenogi urged all stakeholders to dream big regarding this centre’s developmental and enterprise potential. She said: “This centre can be a place where young people discover themselves”
The collective heartily thanks the sponsors which included DEDECT’s entities, Unicef, Mmabatho Palms (Peermont Group), Sun City, Platinum Slots, Ikageng Liquor Traders Forum and Protea Hotel (Marriot Group).
