The North West Development Corporation (NWDC) has opened a call for informal traders to apply to become beneficiaries.
The call forms part of the objectives of the Targeted Township and Rural Enterprises Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Support Programme.
The following applications for informal traders are now open:
- Traders in the Mamusa Local Municipality could apply to become general dealers;
- Traders in the Kagisano-Molopo Local Municipality are invited to apply to have their tuck shop, car wash, beauty salon, bakery etc. upgraded.
- Traders in Ventersdorp, Dr KK District Municipality could apply for either the general dealer OR the upgrade benefit
- Traders in Mabeskraal, Moses Kotane Local Municpality for either the general dealer OR the upgrade benefit
- Traders in Madibogo, Ratlou Local Municpality for either the general dealer OR the upgrade benefit

The NWDC is the implementing agency for the project sponsor – The North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT).
General Dealer Project
DEDECT has stipulated that the establishment of a warehouse/general dealer intervention is to be implemented.
The current rounds of applications are now open in the Mamusa LM (Schweizer-Reneke), Dr KK LM (Ventersdorp) and in the Moses Kotane LM (Mabeskraal).
Support will be given to either an existing general dealer who will qualify as per the requirements or to a small informal trader who is willing to convert the small operation into a general dealer.
The selected general dealer must be willing to sell to the informal traders in the area at reasonable prices that will afford the informal traders a chance to make higher profits.
Existing informal traders in the relevant municipalities that meet the qualifying criteria listed below are encouraged to apply before the closing dates stipulated on the advert images.

Informal Traders – Business Upgrade project
Informal Traders who own tuck shops, hair salons, bakeries, butcheries/chesa-nyama and car washes are invited to apply to become beneficiaries for a business upgrade or container.
This round of applications are now open in:
- Tlakgameng in the Kagisano-Molopo local municipality
- Ventersdorp (Dr KK District, JB Marks LM)
- Mabeskraal (Moses Kotane LM)
- Madibogo (Ratlou LM)

THE QUALIFYING CRITERIA FOR BOTH AREA’S APPLICATIONS ARE:
- Be a black-owned informal trader
- Have a South African identity
- In possession of a trading license from the local municipality
- Operating for the past three years
- Demonstrate good management skills
- Have a bank account
- No criminal record

The above phases form part of the Targeted Township and Rural Enterprises Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Support Programme.
The comprehensive project aims to stimulate and grow the retail sector in the North West province.
The three objectives of the collective project are to:
- Establish at least four wholesale warehouses / general dealers. One in each provincial district
- Implement designed container tuck shops, hair salons, bakeries, butcheries/chesanyama and car washes
- Train entrepreneurs to cultivate a sustainable entrepreneurial culture among participants in the retail economy.
At the NWDC as the implementing agency, the project’s custodianship lies with the Small Business Development unit, headed by Executive Manager Ms Nokuthula Phamodi.
