September 8, 2025MSME flea market sparks hope and growth in Potchefstroom
On Saturday, 27 September 2025, the Riverwalk Shopping Centre in Potchefstroom came alive with vibrant energy, entrepreneurial spirit, and community pride as the North West Development Corporation, through its Small Business Development (SBD) Unit, hosted a dynamic MSME Flea Market.
The event, supported by the JB Marks Municipality, North West University, and the NWDC Marketing & Communications Unit, celebrated local innovation, resilience, and the power of collaboration.
The flea market showcased a rich tapestry of products from passionate small business owners—each stall a testament to creativity and determination. From tantalising food stalls and stylish clothing to aluminium frames, Pres Les products, gaming setups, and even a local author’s book on overcoming anger, the diversity was astounding.
Attendees explored offerings such as flowers, sweets, framed pictures, decorative bottles, earrings, hot chilli sauces, porridge, traditional blankets and attire, wigs and hats, dagga-infused hair products, Forever Living products, and even homoeopathic IV drips.
But beyond the products, the true highlight of the day was the presence of NWDC CEO, Mr. Mojalefa Nale.
In a powerful gesture of solidarity and support, Mr. Nale took time out of his demanding schedule to personally engage with the MSMEs.
His words of encouragement, practical advice, and genuine interest in each entrepreneur’s journey left a lasting impression.
Many MSMEs expressed heartfelt gratitude, deeply moved by Mr. Nale’s commitment to their growth. His message was clear: “This is just the beginning. We must scale these flea markets to reach more people, create greater impact, and truly empower MSMEs across the province.”
The event was more than a market—it was a movement. It ignited hope, built connections, and reminded everyone that when institutions, municipalities, and communities come together, transformation is not only possible—it’s inevitable.
As the sun set over Potchefstroom, the echoes of laughter, conversation, and inspiration lingered.
The NWDC MSME Flea Market proved that small businesses are not just the backbone of the economy—they are the heartbeat of our communities
