MEDIA RELEASE:

The North West Development Corporation confirms that a fire broke out at the Development House building in Mahikeng on the morning of Monday, 20 July 2020.

It is believed the fire was caused between 10:00 and 11:00 on the morning of 20 July 2020.

The South African Police Services and firefighters were on the scene, and all people were safely evacuated from the building. No serious injuries were reported.

The building is the property of the NWDC, and is being leased to two provincial government departments, namely the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) and the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements  (dlg & hs).

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and has been referred to the South African Police Service (SAPS). The Development House building has been sealed off by SAPS to allow for forensic investigations to take place.
