About USAID Africa Trade and Investment (ATI) Southern Africa Buy-in Activity
The USAID Africa Trade and Investment Southern Africa Buy-in Activity (the Project) is part of the larger USAID Africa Trade and Investment program. The USAID Africa Trade and Investment program, scheduled to run through 2026, is designed to bolster the U.S. Government’s ability to boost trade and investment to, from, and within the African continent. The continent-wide program is USAID’s flagship effort supporting the Prosper Africa initiative and will expand and accelerate two-way trade and investment between African nations and the United States.
Building on the success of a previous USAID trade-promotion project (the USAID Southern Africa Trade and Investment Hub, concluded in 2022), the Project takes a market-systems development (MSD) approach to promote regional economic growth, in line with USAID Southern Africa’s 2020-2025 Regional Development Cooperation Strategy. To this end, the Project focuses on two main objectives:
1. Increasing agricultural exports from targeted Southern African countries to South Africa; and
2. Boosting sustainable utilization of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) opportunities in the agriculture and agribusiness sector by targeting Southern African countries.
