Women’s Month 2022 was aptly rounded off with a business women outreach hosted by DEDECT MEC Kenetswe Mosenogi at the Lefakong Moringa farm in Bosplaas in the Moretele local municipality on 30 August 2022.
The event, themed “Generation Equality: Realising Women’s Rights for an Equal Future,” was aimed at creating awareness among women-owned SMMEs about economic opportunities and regulatory matters. Content shared was aimed at assisting them to comply with relevant legislation for the growth of their businesses.
NWDC attended and branded at the event, which was hosted on the farm owned by one of its trade clients, Ms Maboang Matlou, CEO and owner of Lefakong Farming – The Hills of Health. Her business manufactures and sells various organic products from the locally grown Moringa Tree.
Ms Matlou has more than seven years’ experience in the agriculture industry as a farmer and entrepreneur. Because of its high nutritional value, she chose Moringa to be part of a larger food security picture. Matlou is a health and wellness enthusiast who has invested in the quality assurance and true organic nature of Moringa, which can be processed into tea, powder, and a variety of other natural health foods.
Her brand’s products include Moringa Powder, Capsules, Salt, Tea, Infused Honey and the very popular MorGin – a gin made from hand-picked moringa leaves. Her products are available from her online store, in some Spars and via Takealot.
Alongside Lefakong Farming’s Moringa products, local women SMMEs were also afforded the opportunity to exhibit their products at the event.
In delivering the keynote address at the event, MEC Mosenogi advocated for businesswomen in rural areas to participate in the mainstream economy and to use these sessions for information gathering and assistance from Development Finance institutions and regulators.
“As women in business, you must take the lead in changing the economic landscape of the communities in which you live. The Department will help by collaborating with key investors in the service delivery ecosystem to unlock key enablers of economic growth. As government we cannot do it alone, we need business women to partner with us to alleviate poverty and create jobs for local communities”, said the MEC.
The MEC further encouraged women to advocate for generation equality, which is a rallying call for meaningful social change aimed at ending inequality and strengthening women’s organized formations for future generations.
The day’s event concluded with the hand-over of mobile kitchen units by MEC Mosenogi to local businesswomen.
