As we all should know by now, the HIV pandemic has our country in its grips. The NWDC is aware of the impact it will have on future generations within our vibrant society. And the first step in dealing with the virus is to be aware of your HIV status. With this in mind we have taken steps to ensure that our employees are in fact aware of their HIV status.
Following a campaign, by President Jacob Zuma, in encouraging every citizen to get tested and be conscious of their HIV status, the NWDC spearheaded a one day HIV test operation for its employees. The 21st July 2010 was set aside as a day where NWDC employees, at the Mmabatho branch and Head Office, could voluntarily have themselves tested.
Agang Services, a Non-Medical site, approached the NWDC and offered the HIV Counseling and testing. The tests and counseling were carried out at no cost to the company and were done onsite. We are proud to say that our employees lined up at the chance to have themselves tested. The tests were not only conducted for HIV, as glucose and blood pressure readings were also taken. A total number of 44 of our employees volunteered to undergo the pre-counseling and testing.
The NWDC applauds its employees for taking the time to have themselves tested and would like to encourage other companies to follow suit.
