RUSTENBURG, 18 APRIL 2024 – DEDECT, in collaboration with its affiliated agencies NWDC and NWGB, in conjunction with various government regulatory bodies, undertook a series of service delivery initiatives in Rustenburg as part of the very tangible launch of Operation Latela Molao. The inaugural event was presided over by DEDECT MEC Virginia Tlhapi at the Rustenburg Civic Centre, seeing role players pledge their commitment to enforce the law on all aspects, and especially with regards to business compliance regulation.
The primary objective of this campaign is not only to raise awareness and educate the public but also to bolster the implementation of departmental programmes related to Consumer Protection and Liquor Regulation functions under the Business Regulations program. These functions primarily address compliance, consumer protection, and inspections. The overarching goal is to ensure that local businesses adhere to regulatory requirements, thereby addressing concerns such as the sale of unsafe food and food products, re-packaging of items, distribution of counterfeit goods, non-compliance with health and environmental regulations, illegal gambling activities, and violations of liquor regulations.
Within the Rustenburg CBD, Business Regulation Inspectors under the guidance of MEC Tlhape did inspections and ascertained adherence to a range of legislative enactments, encompassing the Consumer Protection Act, National Liquor Act, North West Business Licensing Act, The North West Gambling Act, and other pertinent business regulatory frameworks.
Concurrently, educational representatives from the department conducted an awareness campaign at Shoprite Midtown Mall in Rustenburg. This initiative aims to enlighten communities about the array of services offered by DEDECT, including assistance with business/cooperative registration, liquor license applications, and consumer protection matters, along with promoting tourism and environmental opportunities, all accessible at the DEDECT stall. Furthermore, officials from NWDC and NWGB are engaging with the local community on-site, providing valuable insights into the services rendered by their respective organizations.
The day’s events culminated in the signing of the Latela Molao pledge at the Rustenburg Civic Centre, presided over by Mr Mojalefa Nale, CEO of the NWDC as the programme director.
