On Friday, 17 May 2024 the Mahikeng Trade Market state of readiness ceremony and site inspection will mark a significant milestone in empowering Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) of the North West Province.
The Trade Market site in the Mahikeng Industrial Area has been recently renovated as a project of the North West Development Corporation (NWDC) for the purpose of housing SMMEs.
It consists of a maximum of 23 manufacturing units that will be rented to SMMEs. The Trade Market site includes an office for the management and administration of the facility. The focus of the development is on mixed manufacturing. The Mahikeng Trade Market will specifically promote the manufacturing of durable and semi-durable goods for home and business use such as furniture, household textiles and miscellaneous metal products.
Following the announced state of readiness, a public process will follow whereby SMMEs will be invited to submit applications to become tenants of the Mahikeng Trade Market.
Under the stewardship of the NWDC, the Mahikeng Trade Market aims to serve as a hub where SMMEs can access public support initiatives, including those facilitated by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and the Department of Small Business Development (DSBD).
Says Mr Mojalefa Nale, CEO of the NWDC: “We are pleased to showcase the Mahikeng Trade Market site to the business sector and community alike. The NWDC and its partner organisations are ready to welcome SMME tenants into this space and assist them in growing their business and their markets.”
The establishment of the Mahikeng Trade Market follows a pronouncement made by the MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Conservation, and Tourism (DEDECT) during the 2022/23 departmental budget speech. The collaborative project’s funding, management and support were made possible by DEDECT, the National Department of Small Business Development, SEDA, the Ngaka Modiri Molema District and Mahikeng municipalities, executed by the NWDC.
The Mahikeng Trade Market is situated at Stand No 3290, James Watt Crescent, Industrial Sites, Mahikeng.
