On 11 July 2024 industrial packaging manufacturer, Harvest Group, launched their new industrial production line, signaling a massive investment into the economy of R100 million.
In tangibly showing support for this industrial tenant of the North West Development Corporation, the MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, Ms Bitsa Lenkopane visited the factory site in Babelegi as part of the launch.
In her address MEC Lenkopane praised Harvest Group for the remarkable investment they are making into the manufacturing sector, contributing significantly to economic growth and stability.
The investment of Harvest Group will also lead to the transfer of scarce skills in operating the latest, state-of-the-art factory line machinery, leading to job creation and an increase in exports of these manufactured spun-melt nonwoven products.
In introducing the new production line, Harvest Group CEO Mr Shenton Sun sincerely thanked all their partners, clients and Harvest Group staff for making it possible for them to celebrate twenty years as a company, stemming from humble beginnings. The company has been a tenant of the NWDC since its inception in 2004.
The launch included a tour of the new factory, showcasing and demonstrating the state-of-the-art machinery and large-scale manufacturing line with a production speed of up to 500 metres per minute and a production capacity of 8000 tonnes per year.
Other entities supporting the launch included the NWDC with its CEO Mr Mojalefa Nale, the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, Home Affairs, the Chinese Embassy and Sasol Polymers Division.
Harvest Group is a leading supplier of knitted and woven bags with a wide range of uses in the agricultural industry. The group also offers a labelling service which consists of labels being sewed onto their agricultural bags.
With the new nonwoven spun-melt production line, they can now manufacture a brand new range of products of high strength coupled with extreme softness. These products will find application in sanitary materials, medical supplies, technical engineering, packaging supplies and household goods. Their excellent isolation and filtration properties are due to their very fine fibres.
