Staff of the NWDC made a difference in communities throughout July 2015, which is known as Mandela Month, an extension to Mandela Day, celebrated annually on 18 July.
The focus of this year’s initiatives was to upgrade a number of identified houses in disadvantaged communities with much needed maintenance and new furniture. Staff from the NWDC pitched in and contributed their time to paint, renovate and provide much-need groceries.
Projects ran from Hammanskraal, executed by the Babelegi and Ga Rankuwa branches to the upgrade of two houses in the Alabama settlement in Klerksdorp. The project in Alabama was a collaborative effort between the NWDC, FEED and the Gambling Board, with FEED MEC Wendy Nelson contributing much more than just 67 minutes when she did some much needed painting to the exterior of two identified houses.
Apart from the renovating and the painting, new bedding, matresses, furniture and groceries were donated.
