In 2011 the NWDC was invited by the Free State Development Corporation to a sports tournament that was held in Bloemfontein. The tournament saw the NWDC go head on in a soccer and netball clash with the FSDC. The initiative was a considerable success. Players had an opportunity to bond with each other and also get to meet new people. Team spirit was rife, and competition was fierce.

The significant success of the tournament saw the NWDC take its turn this year, at hosting the event at the Mmabatho Stadium. Teams went up against each other in a variety of sporting activities, the highlights of which were the men’s football, woman’s netball and volleyball games. The tournament was a great success, with all credit going to the players, organizers and supporters. The NWDC soccer team unfortunately lost to the FSDC, while our netball team won gold medals and our volley ball team won a trophy.

Although we did not win all of the games, the NWDC teams kept their heads held high and were absolutely brilliant hosts. We applaud our staff members in this regard and may our team spirit continue to thrive as it has.
