Home-baked success: Bongiwe Phakathi is building her dream one loaf at a time

In Oukasie, Madibeng Local Municipality – Passion, determination and a love for baking have become the ingredients behind the growing success of Bongiwe Phakathi, a black woman entrepreneur from Oukasie near Wonderpark in Madibeng Local Municipality.

In 2024, Bongiwe turned her lifelong passion for baking into a home-based business. Operating from her own kitchen, she has steadily built a loyal customer base by producing delicious baked goods and homemade delicacies that have become popular among residents and workers in the area.

Her menu includes freshly baked scones, biscuits, beautifully decorated cakes, fruit treats and homemade achar, all prepared with care and attention to quality. She sells her products in town, where customers have come to appreciate the distinctive taste of her baked goods and her affordable prices.

“My passion for baking inspired me to start my own business. I wanted to create products that people would enjoy while making quality baking accessible to everyone,” says Bongiwe.

Her business caters for a wide range of customers, including weddings, birthday celebrations, community events and workers looking for fresh, homemade snacks and meals. She believes that every order deserves the same level of dedication, whether it is a single cake or catering for a large event.
