The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) is embarking on a process of developing the inaugural South African SMMEs and Co-operatives Funding Policy. This is to create an enabling environment to support the formation, expansion and maintenance of existing small businesses.

The Draft Funding Policy was gazetted on 28 April 2023, and public comments are being invited for one month after the publication date, until 28 May 2023.

The aim of the South African SMMEs and Co-operatives Funding Policy is to deepen access to finance and thus increase the number of small enterprises established. A total of 17 interventions are being proposed in the draft policy.
