The SUN CITY CONVENTION CENTRE – 24 & 25 AUGUST 2026.

The North West Development Corporation (NWDC) participated as a named partner in the 2026 Mining Integration Summit, hosted at the Sun City Convention Centre.

The summit was conceptualised and hosted by the South African Mining Community Association (SAMCA)*.

The summit was directed by the overall theme “Sustainable Harmony and Accountability for Transformation” and brought together government leaders, mining industry stakeholders, development institutions, entrepreneurs, investors and community representatives to discuss sustainable growth and transformation in the mining sector.

NWDC’s Marketing and Communications, Trade and Investment, and Small Business Development units supported the Corporation’s presence at the summit through panel discussions, branding and stakeholder engagement. The team engaged with delegates and exhibitors, showcased NWDC’s services and created awareness of the Corporation’s role in supporting investment, entrepreneurship and economic growth in the North West Province.

The two-day event focused on strengthening partnerships, promoting investment, accelerating economic development and ensuring that mining activities contributed to meaningful socioeconomic benefits for communities. Discussions addressed policy implementation, governance, infrastructure development, community participation, women and youth empowerment, and sustainable economic impact.

NWDC’s panel participation was led by Mr Thapelo Mokotedi, Executive: Small Business Development, who served as a panellist during the opening day discussion titled “From Policy Certainty to Ground-Level Delivery: De-Risking Mining Investment and Turning Policy into Implementation.” The session examined how mining investment could contribute to sustainable local economic development and create opportunities for MSMEs, skills development and employment.

Mr Mokotedi shared insights on the practical conditions required to ensure that mining investment contributed directly to local economic growth and enterprise development. The discussion also considered how mining projects could strengthen links with local suppliers, MSMEs and community development initiatives.

The summit programme also included the participation of NWDC Small Business Development Manager, Mr Welane Wanzi, in a session focused on financing, digitising and powering infrastructure for sustainable mining regions. Other discussions during the two days focused on governance, community development, women and youth participation in mining, skills development and investment in regional economies.

Panel discussions at the summit were led around the two daily sub-themes. Day 1: “Policy, Government, Infrastructure and Community Development, Impact & Energy” and Day 2, fitting for National Women’s Month: “Women in Mining, Youth in Mining and Socioeconomic Impact & Energy.”
