NWDC’s Trade & Investment Unit, under the leadership of Lovemore Makunike, participated in the Global Expo Botswana (GEB) alongside selected North West companies from 1 to 4 November 2022.
In addition to showcasing ten companies from the North West Province, the NWDC also scooped second place in the Country Pavillion award category for its exhibition pavilion.
The GEB is Botswana’s annual premier business-to-business exhibition and was held at Ditshupo Hall, Gaborone after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
This year’s exhibition set parameters for re-building and growth as far as technological advancement is concerned with the theme “Reimagining our economy for a better tomorrow through digitalisation and the application of robust export-led strategies.”
The NWDC selected eight companies from the North West Province that have grown from being entry-level to being export-ready and are looking to enter new markets such as our neighbouring country, which is a big market for the North West Province.
The sectors in which the exhibiting North West companies operate include:
The President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, honoured the NWDC stand pavilion with a visit and showed an avid interest in Lefakong Moringa products including their gin. Ms Poloko Maphula, trade officer, had a short briefing with the President to showcase the North West to His Excellency whilst investment specialist Regomoditswe Ramong participated in various business-to-business meetings throughout the day.
The NWDC also received the warm support of the South African High Commissioner to Botswana, High Commissioner TP Shope-Soumah, who pledged to lend significant support to North West companies in facilitating their entry into the Botswana market. He further noted the challenges currently faced by South Africans and indicated that he would make a concerted effort to resolve them with the government of the host country.
During the expo, District Commissioner Ms Seitshiro opened the programme by introducing the guests and acknowledging the presence of H.E. Dr Masisi, Dignitaries, Ministers, and CEOs present as well as international guests.
In closing, BITC Board Chair, Ms Palesa Semele lauded H.E Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi & Prof. Oramah’s presence at the ongoing GEB & further encouraged businesses to engage in the business-to-business matchmaking (B2B) sessions to hatch new business relationships.
